Overview:
Due to a series of recent events, I have reason to believe that I have found an instance of a Muki (or Knocker/Tommyknocker here in Appalachian culture), a humanoid species of cave dweller, in the abandoned mines outside of town. Sustainable evidence is still needed to validate this anomaly*
*See end of investigation section for context
Investigation:
Beginning in the early morning, I started an impromptu exploration of a large cavern in the woodland approximately 2 miles from town.
The cavern opened up into a large swath of tunnel, appearing manmade, the mineshaft spanned farther than my light could reach in either direction
The tunnels seem vacant, with many pathways blocked by collapsed boulders and debris.
After a sweep of the tunnels as far as I could go without risking losing my exit, no evidence of anything unusual was found.
As I returned to the exit, I observed a series of knocks from behind. The three knocks were followed by silence, and I took a flash photo from the direction of their origin. Hopefully being able to stimulate some kind of response.
Shortly after this photo was taken, a significant shift in the earth took place. Due to the instability of the tunnels, I carefully trailed my way back to the entrance. The knocks at the time seemed like a sign to leave, as the creaking of wooden supports could likely produce such a noise.
The origin of the knocking was inconclusive until I spotted the source. A small humanoid figure, no more than 3 feet tall, with odd proportions, yet clothed. Eyes appeared to be large glowing orbs.
Disappeared when photographed with a high-definition camera.
I resurfaced without issues, it was about noon. When recalling my list of equipment, everything remained except for the camera containing photographs of the creature.
Conclusions:
Reviewing the one image I managed to capture on my cell phone, along with my encounter. I’ve come to the conclusion that this anomaly is an instance of a creature known by many different names, but is commonly known in Central Andes folklore as the “Muki” and is native to mining tunnels.
Other instances of the creature have been reported around the world, each sporting their own name and slight differences based on culture and location, but key details remain the same:
